Starter solenoid

ive been having starting problems with my savage lately....here s what it does....i turn the key on and pull the clutch in and push the button on start..then hit the starter button....all i get is one click....the battery is not dead as the light doesnt dim whn trying to start....we jumped the battery straight to the starter and it fired....thi s happens from time to time....is there a solenoid or something that could be going bad? if so how can i fix it HELP!!
